Hands on the Land exhibit
Sarah Baskin
Here are my thoughts on my painting “The Big Debate” in the Hands on the Land Exhibit at the Connecticut River Museum from March 18, 2021 through October 10, 2021, and at the Lyme Art Association from November 19, 2021 through January 2, 2022.

My painting “The Big Debate” (14”x11” watercolor on paper) was selected for the “Hands on the Land” juried art show organized by the Connecticut River Museum and the Lyme Art Association. The exhibit addresses human impact on the Connecticut River Valley. My painting depicts NRG Energy’s power plant hovering over the Connecticut River in Middletown, Connecticut. The company is embroiled in an ongoing debate about how best to meet the energy needs of Connecticut residents most efficiently and reliably with the least environmental impact as it tries to replace its infrastructure and expand its output in the state. The exhibit will run from March 18, 2021 through October 10, 2021, at the Connecticut River Museum and then will run at the Lyme Art Association from November 19, 2021 through January 2, 2022. I hope you get out and see the exhibit!
